Niagara Falls. The beauty, the magnificence, the majesty of Niagara Falls. One of the seven wonders of the world - and the honeymoon captial of the world!
Every year thousands upon thousands of tourists flock from all over the world to see the mighty spectacular that is Niagara Falls.
No matter where you are in the world, chances are your local newspaper has ads for trips to Niagara Falls and tours of Niagara Falls.
Here, on Niagara Falls Travel Tips, we will tell you a little more about Niagara Falls and things to do while visiting Niagara Falls on your next holiday...
Niagara Falls is located on the Canadian - American border, between Niagara Falls, New York and Niagara Falls, Ontario. The Niagara River carries the water from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario - it's a vital part of the Great Lakes system, where 20% of the world's fresh water flows through these 5 mighty lakes.
Caused by the water eating away softer rock, Niagara Falls is located at the widest part of the Niagara River, about 10 miles north of Lake Erie and 15 miles south of Lake Ontario. In actual fact the river splits into 3 separate falls - The Horseshoe Falls pictured here, The American Falls, and the much-smaller Bridal Veil Falls separated by a small island from The American Falls.
While everyone is amazed at the volume of water coming over Niagara Falls each minute, very few realize that the flow over Niagara Falls these days is just 25% of the river's volume in summer and 15% in winter - the rest is diverted upstream into massive hydro-electric projects in both countries, and rejoins the flow downstream from the Falls. Imagine what Niagara Falls was like before the first hydro plant was built just over 100 years ago...
No wonder the natives of that era referred to it as "The Thundering Waters"! Since we live just 10 miles from Niagara Falls, we'll try to use Niagara Fall Travel Tips to bring you both the tourist's view and the local's view of the sites, sounds and attractions at Niagara Falls - enjoy your visit to our site and be sure to bookmark it and return regularly.
